It is with regret that the Houston Yacht Club announces that it has discontinued further negotiations with World Sailing to host the 2017 Blind World Fleet Regatta. A proposal was submitted to host the regatta in November 2015, and approved by the Disabled Committee of World Sailing in February 2016. After numerous requests, a draft contract was finally submitted to HYC in October 2016. Several drafts were exchanged, with the primary concern being legal liability and insurance coverages. The Houston Yacht Club, after extensive consultation with its attorneys and insurance provider, submitted a final draft to World Sailing, which was returned with further revisions.
This is the second attempt to host this event. With less than 5 months remaining before the event, the Houston Yacht Club concluded that it could not put on a world-class event in the time remaining, and withdrew its proposal.
The Houston Yacht Club extends its best wishes to the blind sailing community, and to the new host of the 2017 event.
