San Francisco Blind Match Racing Clinic October 20-22, 2017

Announcing the

2017 BAADS San Francisco Blind Match Racing Clinic.

Save the date. Here comes the 2017 BAADS San Francisco Blind Match Racing (BMR) Clinic, October 20, 21 and 22, 2017. This year the clinic will be in the middle of October on San Francisco Bay with its gorgeous Fall weather and consistent winds both of which make this an event every visually impaired advanced or novice sailor should not miss, especially given the low registration fees, very low cost housing options we have arranged, professional coaching staff to guide the clinic, San Francisco culture and nightlife after each day’s activities to enjoy, and the wonderful camaraderie of the other participants to experience during the 3 day clinic.

Do you think coming to the clinic would be valuable to hone not only your general sailing skills, but also your match racing skills?   Well, hear it from one of last year’s participants directly:

“I wanted to thank you so very much for the incredible experience of this past weekend. I cannot fathom the amount of work that went into pulling all of this together. I am so grateful. I learned so much. The caliber of talent and skill from you and your staff is quite obvious and the willingness to teach us at each person’s own level was perfection in action. Not to mention a boatload of fun (yes, corny pun absolutely intended). This weekend gave me another layer of total addiction to everything “sailing” and a new intrigue for learning more about match racing in particular///”

Registration fees for the clinic will be a modest $75 for the 2017 BMR Clinic per participant, but this is not the best news. To address the challenge of sky high housing costs in the downtown area of San Francisco, BAADS and the San Francisco Lighthouse have teamed up for this clinic to offer space in the SF Lighthouse downtown residential facility for participants, coaches, volunteers and others related to the clinic at an amazing price of only $75 USD per person per night. The housing option begins on the Thursday night before the clinic starts and will continue all the way through to Monday morning after the clinic ends on Sunday for those who wish to spend the last full day of the clinic on the water for the mini regatta rather than travelling. This very low cost housing option at a facility specifically geared for those with visual impairments for up to 4 nights should eliminate one of the major obstacles facing most visually impaired sailors when travelling away from home.

This BMR clinic is open to all, but space is limited. The clinic is expected to be broken up into two groups, those with more experience and those with less, so that everyone will be able to progress at an appropriate pace, but be assured that everyone will be in their “growth zone” for this one. We should have access to two sets of matching keelboats (4 in total), and in the afternoon on the last day, there will be a mini regatta to allow everyone to demonstrate their acquired match racing skills in a low stress, learning environment as there is nothing like the real thing to stimulate permanent knowledge. Space in the clinic will be based on a first to pay registration fee basis, so please book the space on your calendar now. We look forward to welcoming you to the in comparable San Francisco Bay for a long weekend you will always remember.
